WITE32™

Version 2.33
9/1/99

Introduction

The 2.33 release introduces new features, and fixes bugs found, in the WITE32 2.32 release. (This document uses the WITE32 2.32 release notes as a base line for comparison.)

New Features

    • PRML chip adapter software now supports M16+ B PRML chip.
  • Popcorn Test can now run in hard sector mode.
  • WITE32 now supports all the SP (Side Position) Interfaces.

Fixed Bugs

The following bugs have been fixed:

  • For a computer without Visual Basic 6.0 installed, pressing the setup button for the Spectrum Analyzer test triggers the following error message (found in ver. 2.32),

    WPROF: Error: Class not registered.
You need the following file to be installed on your machine. MSSTDFMT.DLL. Abort/Retry/Ignore

NOW: This file has been included in the installation and this error does not occur.
  • Clicking the From, To, and Step data fields alternately in the Write-Read Offset Test configuration dialogue box causes the values to change due to a rounding error.

NOW: The rounding error in the Write-Read Offset Test is fixed.
  • There is an error in reporting modulation when a test is run through the Spectrum Analyzer (reported = 25% vs. actual = 1%).

NOW: The reported modulation is the same as the actual measured modulation.

Modifications

  • During startup of WITE32, there were too many "Power On/Power Off" events on the Head Amplifier that may damage/kill ESD sensitive heads.

NOW: The number of "Power On/Power Off" events on the Head Amplifier is reduced to 4 to 6 per startup.
  • The Offtrack Performance Test is modified in the following ways:
  1. Three new parameters are measured, reported to the database, and reported on the graph window. These parameters are On track Error Rate, Error Rate @ +X%, and Error Rate @-X%.

On track Error Rate Minimum measured Error Rate value
Error Rate @ +X% Error Rate values measured at the distance X% of the track pitch from the center of the track, which is equal to 0 or WROffset value, depending on the Center at read Offset position checkbox value
Error Rate @-X% Error Rate values measured at the distance -X% of the track pitch from the center of the track, which is equal to 0 or WROffset value, depending on the Center at read Offset position checkbox value
  2. User Frequency is now displayed on the graph window.
  3. The Error Rate Measure frame is added to the configuration dialogue box. The at +/- % of T. P. is the distance from the track center in %. Track (Pitch) and Abs (absolute) location are read-only fields.
